This Mortal Dance
original lyrics
 by Jamie Joy Gatto

...

I eat the flesh of animals
I drink fermented grapes

I lust for flesh of fruits, of men
I hunger for their taste

I drown my sorrow in my work
I do whatever it takes

Scheherazade who spoke to live
shares in my sordid Fate

A tongue to tell the tale
won’t serve the words I weave

I write to make my thoughts come true
Until this world I leave

I dance a thousand dances
I tell a thousand lies

I weave the web so thin
I dance until I spin

I smoke the leaves of plants
I dance this mortal dance

Tongues caress the pills
While away my ills

I huff the dust into my nose
I hover at my grave

Take me out to play
For I could die today

I bury myself alive
I die whenever I write

I dance a thousand dances
I live a thousand lives

Words carry me in their wake
combine my wicked vices
