Red Ruby Slippers
 by Jules

...

You took me to a place that I had never been before, or since.
Falling high into the sky, just me and my red ruby slippers.
You warned that there would be a price to bear, but I did not care.

For today I was flying, and the sun was shining brightly.
Flying higher than the bird's highest flight,
just me and my ruby red slippers.

Then came the night, when you turned down the
light and heeded that there would be a price to pay.
But I laughed and said, " Perhaps another day,"
for I wanted to soar above the clouds.

Watching dusk looming large,
my flight took me away to the golden clouds,
just me and my ruby red slippers.

Then you came and said in quite earnest that the time had come to pay.
I laughed again, but you said it would not go away.
In my great despair I put the red ruby slippers in my closet of dreams,
knowing that I could never pay what you wished.

So in my memories my bliss and aviation unfettered
I live the gift you gave, and wish that I could repay your desire.
Oh, how my feet ache to dance yet again a single dance,
just me and my red ruby slippers.
